　　東京地下鉄と創設者（地下鉄の父）早川徳次
1914年（大正3年）、早川徳次は欧米の「鉄道と港湾」の調査研究のため、ロンドンを訪れました。網の目のように発達する地下鉄網を目のあたりにし、これからの東京の発展には地下鉄が不可欠だと考え、欧米各地の地下鉄を調査研究し、2年後に帰国します。
　自ら地質・湧水量の調査をはじめ、上野や銀座の交差点に立ちこ交通量の調査を行い、反対者や競争相手が現れる中、協力者や資金を集め、東京地下鉄道株式会社を創設しました。
　そして1927年（昭和2年）、日本最初の地下鉄を上野～浅草間（2.2ｋｍ）に開通させ、彼の夢は結びました。

      Noritsugu HAYAKAWA
In 1914,Noritsugu HAYAKAWA visited London to conduct a research study of "railway and harbor" in Europe and the Unaited States.
Deeply impressed by extensively developed subway network in London,he was convinced that an underground railway would be indispensable for the development of Tokyo in the future.
He dedicated himself to research study of subways in Europe and the United States and returned to Japan 2 years later.
He started by investigating the nature of the soil and underground water,and also studied the volume of traffic at the crossing of Ueno,Ginza and other streets in Tokyo.Despite the existence of opposition and competitors,HAYAKAWA was able to gather together collaborators and raise funds to establish the Tokyo Underground Railway Company.
In 1927,the first subway in Japan opened between Ueno and Asakusa (2.2km) and his dream finally came true.
